The unit went to Moor House activity centre for our annual camp. We left on Wednesday 6th and came back to reality on the 13th August 2003. There were 8 explorers and 4 leaders on the first few nights while another leader arrived at the weekend. The programme on Thursday was a morning in Durham with a challenge in the afternoon, to visit as many places on public transport , and buy various items en route (we got everything from a pineapple to a blow up seat). Friday was a hike to the coast, this proved to be very difficult due to the extreme heat and we cut it short, however some of the leaders did manage to get to Seaham and get a bit of shopping, however the majority of the party was lucky not to have made it there, it is a cross between a village in Bosnia and Chechnya. In the evening the unit made a campfire for the Brownies that had been staying in the indoor accommodation, they then joined them in their campfire songs. On Saturday we drove to Grosmont the start (or end, depending where you start) of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. We went on the trip to Pickering and spent some time there and returned on a diesel pulled train, in blistering heat, in the evening we went to Whitby and had our dinner and then some free time, the leaders went down the beach where they paddled in the sea, thereafter going to the amusements where we played the 2p machines (cheapskates). Sunday we stayed on site in the thunder and lighting playing cards and generally relaxing. Monday was time for a wash so we went to Wet N Wild in Newcastle, and then spent a little time shopping in the retail park next door. Tuesday was another day to look back, we spent the day at Beamish open air museum. With the camp nearing it's close our last event was the campfire on Tuesday night. The last day was spent striking camp and travelling back to Ayrshire, stopping in Annan for chips.
